The Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD), Government of India, has launched ‘Smart Cities’ initiative to develop 100 smart cities as defined in ‘Smart Cities-Mission Statement & Guidelines’. As of Jan 11, 2017, 60 smart cities have already been announced and remaining 40 will be added shortly.

Automation and Information & Communication Technology (ICT) play major roles in the development of typical smart solutions like Water Management, Energy Management, Waste Management, Urban Mobility, E-Governance, Telemedicine and Skill Development Centers etc.
